2006 Domaine de Monpertuis “Vinobles de la Ramiere”, Chateauneuf Du Pape, Cotes du Rhone–
Predominently Grenache, with Mouvedre, Syrah and Cinsault
Although not considered to be the absolute safe choice for the Great Feast on Thanksgiving Day, this wine in particular screams Fall. I felt like I was sitting Fire side , with my slippered feet up, and my noble hound resting at my side. Maybe even while flipping the channel between the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the big Game. From the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation of the Southern Rhone, this wine is as rustic as the land in which it grows, and has been cared for generation to generation by the Jeune Family. Each family member over the years has tended to the 10 acres of handpicked vines and left their touch on this classic Southern Rhone wine.
Tasting Notes-
Ruby Red. Spicy raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by fresh lavender and rose, with suave mineral quality building in the glass. Vibrant red fruit flavors are concentrated and impressively brisk, picking up silky tannins on the close. The Finish is strikingly fresh and long, repeating the vivid red fruit character. Hints of Cedar and Firewood, or earth.
Food Pairings Suggestions- This is a great fall wine as I mentioned above. It pairs incredible with Roasted Lamb, Braised lamb and Roasted Game Birds. I personally feel that Turkey, can be placed in this category, especially with all the Root Vegetables. It has the fruitiness for the Cranberry sauces and rusticness of earthy vegetables.
